Dynamo AI: build, fix and run Dynamo graphs by asking

AEC Pilot gives your AI assistant hands inside Dynamo. In Revit and Civil 3D, Claude, ChatGPT or Pilot Chat reads the graph you have open, searches the nodes you actually have installed, adds and wires nodes, writes Code Block and Python, runs the graph and reads every result and warning back. Everything runs locally on your machine.

Build a Dynamo graph from a sentence

Describe the result and the assistant builds the graph. It looks up each node in the library of the Dynamo you have running, including packages such as Clockwork, Rhythm or Civil3DToolkit, then places it, wires it and sets its values. The whole edit is checked before anything changes and lands as a single undo step.

  • Real node names from your own library, never guessed: a node your Dynamo does not have is not used.
  • Tidy groups and layout, and nodes that write to the model built frozen, so they stay inert until you say go.
  • Saved as an ordinary .dyn file: a graph you can read, change, keep and run again.

Fix a failing graph without reading it out loud

Red and yellow nodes are the slow part of Dynamo. The assistant reads the graph itself: every node’s type, its values, its Python script and the exact error or warning Dynamo shows on it. Ask “why is this failing?” and it works from the real message, not from your description.

Select nodes on the canvas and ask about “this node”: the assistant sees your selection, so you can point instead of explaining.

Python and Code Block, written and run for you

Ask for a Python node and the assistant writes the script, picks the engine your Dynamo has (CPython3 on Dynamo 2.x and 3.x, PythonNet3 on Dynamo 4.x in Revit 2027), runs it and reads the output back. Revit API calls work as they do in any Dynamo Python node.

For a quick answer it uses a scratch Python node on your canvas, which you can see, edit and keep. For something you will use again, it builds a real graph instead.

Run the graphs you already have

Point it at an existing .dyn file. The graph opens in manual run mode, so nothing evaluates on arrival; the assistant sets the inputs you name, runs it and tells you what each node produced. It never discards unsaved changes in the graph you have open unless you confirm.

A graph that writes to the model changes the model

Running a graph that writes to Revit or Civil 3D changes the open model, exactly as when you press Run yourself. Ask for the write nodes to be built frozen, check the result, then run.

Two ways to use it

Inside Revit or Civil 3D. Pilot Chat is docked in the application. Ask in plain language and it works on the Dynamo session of the model you have open.

From your own LLM. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Google Antigravity through a local Model Context Protocol (MCP) server — one click, no config file to hand-edit and nothing else to install. The server is off by default, binds to localhost, and stops when you say so.

The same assistant also works in the rest of your Autodesk stack, and one licence covers all eight applications on the same machine.

What you can ask

  • “Build a graph that lists every wall type with its total area and shows it in a Watch node.”
  • “Why is this graph failing? Fix the red nodes.”
  • “Write a Python node that returns every sheet whose number starts with A.”
  • “Open Doors_Tag.dyn, set the level to Level 2 and run it.”
  • “In Civil 3D, build a graph that lists every alignment with its length.”

Frequently asked questions

What is Dynamo AI?

Using an AI assistant to build, edit, debug and run Dynamo graphs. AEC Pilot connects Claude, ChatGPT or its own Pilot Chat to the Dynamo you have running in Revit or Civil 3D, so the assistant works on real graphs and real nodes instead of describing them.

Can ChatGPT or Claude write Dynamo scripts?

On their own they can only describe a graph or write Python for you to paste in. With AEC Pilot they create the actual nodes and wires in your open graph, run it and read the results, using the node names from your own library.

Which Dynamo versions work?

Dynamo for Revit in Revit 2023–2027 and Dynamo for Civil 3D, with the Dynamo version each release comes with. Python nodes use CPython3 on Dynamo 2.x and 3.x and PythonNet3 on Dynamo 4.x.

Does it work with my packages?

Yes. Node search covers the library of the Dynamo you have running, including installed packages such as Clockwork, Rhythm or Civil3DToolkit and your in-house packages.

Will it change my model without asking?

Running a graph that writes to the model changes the model, just as pressing Run does. Existing graphs open in manual run mode, write nodes can be built frozen, each edit to the graph is one undo step, and an unsaved graph is never discarded without your confirmation.

Does my model leave my computer?

No. Everything runs on your machine and the MCP server listens on localhost only. Your models and graphs are never uploaded.

Do I need to know Dynamo?

No, but it helps to check the result. The graph it builds is an ordinary .dyn on your canvas that you can read, change and keep.

Is Dynamo support included in my licence?

Yes. It is part of Pilot AI in Revit and Civil 3D, and one AEC Pilot licence covers all eight applications on the same machine. Free for 14 days.
