AI in Revit: comparing your MCP options

Three routes to AI in Revit over MCP: Autodesk's official preview, free open-source servers, and packaged tools like Pilot AI. An honest map — no hype.

Autodesk's official Revit MCP server

The Revit Public MCP Server is a Tech Preview for Revit 2027, installed from your Autodesk Account and used from Claude Desktop, Cursor or another local client. Autodesk documents it as read-only: seven tools to find sessions, query the model, read elements, select, zoom and export views. A solid official start on the newest Revit — but no edits, Revit only, 2027 only.

AutoCAD and Civil 3D have an official preview too — inside Autodesk Assistant rather than Claude or ChatGPT: read-only in AutoCAD, property and style edits in Civil 3D. Navisworks has none.

Open-source community servers

Free servers on GitHub — some very capable, with 100+ read/write tools. Great if you're technical and happy to clone, build, edit JSON and maintain it yourself. The cost: setup, varying maturity, community-only support. Revit only.

Pilot AI

The packaged route. One install covers eight Autodesk applications with 480+ read/write actions, one-click setup for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Antigravity, Pilot Chat inside each app and real support. Everything runs locally — you pay for convenience, breadth and a person to email.

Which should you choose?

  • Just evaluating on Revit 2027, mostly reading the model: start with Autodesk's official preview.
  • Technical, want free, Revit-only, don't mind setup: an open-source server is a great fit.
  • Want it to just work across every Autodesk application you use, with support: that's Pilot AI.

Frequently asked questions

What can the Revit 2027 MCP server do?

It's a read-only Technical Preview for Revit 2027. Seven tools list sessions, query the model, read elements, open views, select, zoom and export. It edits nothing and doesn't run on Revit 2023–2026.

Is Autodesk's official Revit MCP server enough?

For querying a Revit 2027 model, yes — it's a trusted start. For editing, older Revit versions, or AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Navisworks from Claude or ChatGPT, you'll need more.

Are the open-source Revit MCP servers any good?

Yes — some are genuinely capable, with 100+ read/write tools, and free. The trade-off: you clone, build, configure and support them yourself.

What makes Pilot AI different?

One packaged install for eight Autodesk applications, one-click setup for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Antigravity, Pilot Chat inside each app, and a person to email. It just works, everywhere.

Do all of these work with Claude?

Yes. MCP is an open standard, so all of them work with any MCP client. Pilot AI connects Claude Desktop, Claude Code, ChatGPT / Codex, Cursor and Antigravity in one click.

Want the one that works everywhere?

Pilot AI across eight Autodesk applications — free for 14 days.
