AI in Revit: what an AI Revit plugin can actually do
“AI in Revit” sounds abstract until it saves you an afternoon. What an AI Revit plugin does today — and four workflows you can automate now with Pilot AI.
Two ways to use AI in Revit
There are two complementary approaches, and Pilot AI ships both:
- A chat panel inside Revit — ask about the model and automate edits without leaving the app.
- An MCP bridge to your own AI — Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or Antigravity operate Revit through 100+ real actions. See how Revit MCP works.
Workflow 1 — Parameter cleanup and bulk edits
The classic time sink: hundreds of inconsistent parameter values. Ask to “set the Fire Rating of every wall on Level 2 to 60 minutes” and it’s done in one pass. Working from a spreadsheet? ParaFlow round-trips parameters to Excel.
Workflow 2 — Batch documentation
Tag a view, create a sheet per level, place views, dimension grids — the production work that eats days. Describe the result and let Pilot click. For unattended exports, Multi-Model Export batches IFC and NWC from dozens of files.
Workflow 3 — QA and model audits in plain language
Ask “which rooms are unplaced?” or “list every warning by type” and get an answer you can act on. For a scored health check with one-click fixes, add Model Doctor.
Workflow 4 — Beyond Revit: AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Navisworks
The same assistant reaches the rest of your Autodesk stack: 140 actions in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, from geometry to alignments, surfaces and pipe networks.
In Navisworks it runs the coordination round — clash tests and triage, the 4D schedule, the federation, search sets (see clash detection and BIM coordination with AI). One licence, eight applications.
Getting started
Install AEC Pilot, open Pilot Chat in Revit (or connect Claude in one click) and paste your key. Your own AI, running locally — every module free for 14 days.
Frequently asked questions
What is an AI Revit plugin?
A plugin that lets you analyze and edit the model in plain language. Pilot AI does it two ways: a chat panel inside Revit, and a bridge that lets Claude drive Revit over the Model Context Protocol (MCP).
Is AI in Revit reliable enough for production work?
Use it as a fast assistant, not an autopilot: great for repetitive, well-defined work — bulk edits, tagging, sheets, audits. Check the result as you would a colleague’s.
Do I need an OpenAI or Anthropic subscription?
You bring your own AI: an API key for the chat in Revit, or the AI client you already have. AEC Pilot adds no AI fee.
Does the AI upload my model to the cloud?
No. Pilot AI runs on your machine and sends only what you ask. Your models are never uploaded to AEC Pilot.
