Only in Advance Steel

Steel actions appear only in Advance Steel 2024–2027 — on a slow start up to a minute late, as Advance Steel loads its runtime after AutoCAD.

Full descriptions are in the toolbox entry.

Walkthrough: layer and standards cleanup

Outside drawings rarely match your layer standard. Start with what’s there:

“List every layer with how many objects are on it, and flag the empty ones.”

Then act on it — rename to your standard, merge duplicates, set colours and lineweights, freeze the rest. You watch it happen in the open drawing.

Walkthrough: text and attribute edits at scale

Find-and-replace across text, MText and attributes: trivial for ten objects, miserable for a thousand.

“Replace ‘REV A’ with ‘REV B’ in every titleblock attribute across all layouts, and tell me how many you changed.”

Walkthrough: a surface and a profile

In Civil 3D the assistant can build the objects, not just report on them.

“Create a TIN surface from the points on layer TOPO, then create an alignment from the polyline I have selected and cut a surface profile along it.”

A Civil 3D corridor produced from a conversation with the assistant.

Civil 3D output driven from the chat panel — the objects are real Civil objects, not a drawing of them.

Corridors need an assembly first

No assembly, no corridor — create or name one first. Ask without one and the assistant says so instead of building something empty.

Walkthrough: a steel frame in Advance Steel

Describe the frame; every profile is checked against the catalogue before it’s drawn:

“Place four HEA 200 columns, 4 m tall, on a 6 × 8 m grid, and connect their tops with IPE 300 beams in S355.”

Then ask for the numbers:

“List every beam with its profile, length and weight, and give me the steel BOM in kilograms.”

An unknown profile is refused

Advance Steel would draw a placeholder for an unknown profile. The assistant checks the catalogue first and suggests the closest matches instead.

Walkthrough: plotting

Layout and plot work is well covered — list layouts, set the current one, and plot to PDF.

“Plot every layout except the model tab to a single PDF in this folder, using our A1 page setup.”

Which host am I in?

Ask “what can you do here?” — the answer differs between AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Advance Steel, so it’s the fastest check.
